October 29, 2021Squid Game, Netflix’s record breaking series took the world by storm for its brilliant storytelling and incredible acting leaving viewers speechless. The nine (9) episode series is the most watched show on Netflix in 90 countries. But why is it so popular and more importantly, what money lessons can we learn from it?
To recap, Squid Game focuses on a group of desperately indebted people in South Korea that were led into a tournament of children’s games with hope of winning prize money should they emerge victorious. Upon realising that the game was eliminating members through death, participants voted to end the game. Sadly, the game offered most of them their only opportunity to earn money so many of them returned. Now that you’re all caught up, let’s explore the money lessons that we can learn from.
Squid Game is a money lesson in itself. It teaches you that money management can be challenging, but it’s not impossible to manage if you have the right information available. Let’s take a look at some of the main money lessons:
- You need to understand your sources of income as well as your spending requirements to achieve a certain standard of living.
- Money cannot buy happiness and the squid game is a good example of this; those who had huge amounts of money were not much happier than those with small salaries.
- You should not lend money that you are not willing to lose.
- Monies earned should be allocated between current expenditure and investment for future consumption.
This list can go on and on but squid game is a very educational series that teaches you many money lessons. If you have a financial goal and you’re not sure how to achieve it, be sure to schedule a consult with one of our wealth creators by clicking the link below.
